We believe strongly in providing supports to ensure all involved, children, youth and foster parents have better outcomes, Many foster parent applicants are loving, generous people who decide that foster parenting is for them; some of these loving generous people determine that relief foster parenting is just right; some decide to wait for another time in their lives. Position Overview:
Tarbiyyah Horizons is seeking a dedicated and passionate Foster Parent Coordinator to join our team. This role is pivotal in recruiting, training, and supporting foster parents who provide nurturing and culturally sensitive care to children and youth, particularly from Muslim and Black communities. The ideal candidate will be committed to empowering foster parents with the tools and resources they need to create safe, supportive, and enriching environments for children in care.
Key Responsibilities:
Foster Parent Recruitment:
Lead efforts to recruit foster parents who are aligned with the mission and values of Tarbiyyah Horizons. This includes developing outreach strategies, conducting information sessions, and actively engaging with communities to attract prospective foster families.
Training and Development:
Design and deliver comprehensive training programs that prepare foster parents to meet the emotional, cultural, and developmental needs of children and youth in care. Ensure that all foster parents are well-versed in trauma-informed care, cultural competence, and effective parenting strategies.
Ongoing Support and Supervision:
Provide continuous support to foster parents through regular check-ins, guidance, and resources. Ensure that foster families are equipped to handle challenges and can access the necessary services to support the well-being of children and youth in their care.
Culturally Sensitive Care:
Ensure that foster parents are trained to deliver care that is sensitive to the cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds of the children. This includes fostering an understanding of the unique challenges and strengths that children from Muslim and Black communities may face.
Liaison and Advocacy:
Serve as the primary point of contact for foster parents, advocating for their needs and ensuring that they have access to the tools, services, and support necessary for the children’s well-being. Collaborate with other staff, case managers, and external agencies to coordinate comprehensive care.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly assess the performance and well-being of foster homes to ensure that they meet regulatory standards and provide the best possible care. Address any concerns or challenges that arise, offering additional training or resources as needed.
