Position Overview:
Tarbiyyah Horizons is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Counselor/Therapist to join our team. In this role, you will provide individualized counseling and therapy services to children and youth, with a focus on culturally responsive trauma recovery. You will work closely with children from Muslim and Black communities, helping them process their experiences, heal from trauma, and develop resilience. This position requires a deep commitment to trauma-informed care and cultural sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Counseling and Therapy: Provide one-on-one counseling and therapy to children and youth, focusing on their emotional, psychological, and behavioral needs. Tailor therapeutic approaches to meet the unique challenges and strengths of each child, ensuring that sessions are personalized and effective.
Culturally Responsive Trauma Recovery:
Specialize in trauma recovery for children and youth, integrating culturally sensitive methods that respect the cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds of the children. Use therapeutic approaches that are mindful of the diverse identities within the Muslim and Black communities.
Trauma-Informed Care:
Utilize trauma-informed care techniques, recognizing the impact of adverse experiences on children’s emotional and psychological well-being. Help children navigate and heal from the effects of trauma, while promoting coping mechanisms and positive mental health strategies.
Emotional and Behavioral Support:
Address emotional and behavioral challenges through evidence-based therapeutic practices, helping children process feelings of fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, and loss. Guide them in building emotional resilience and developing healthy coping skills.
Parental and Caregiver Collaboration:
Work in close partnership with foster parents, caregivers, and families to support the child’s therapeutic goals. Provide guidance on how caregivers can reinforce positive emotional growth and stability in the home environment.
Group Therapy and Support Sessions:
Lead or participate in group therapy sessions for children, fostering peer support and collective healing. Facilitate discussions that encourage emotional expression and relationship building among the children.
Crisis Intervention:
Be available to provide immediate counseling and emotional support during times of crisis. Ensure that children and youth have access to a trusted, stable resource when navigating emotional upheaval.
Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams:
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with case managers, child and youth workers, and other professionals to ensure the child’s emotional and psychological needs are fully supported.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Track the progress of each child, making adjustments to the therapeutic plan as necessary. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and make recommendations for additional support when needed.
